If you plan to transfer from Oregon State University (OSU) to another school in the US, you must notify the Office of International Services (OIS) so that a transfer may be processed in the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS).
Although you may be applying to many schools, your SEVIS record can only be transferred to one school within 5 months of your last day of attendance. If you wish to cancel your transfer, you must notify OIS before your transfer release date. Once your SEVIS record has been released to another school OSU will no longer have access to it.
The date your SEVIS record is released to the new school is referred to as the transfer release date. Things to remember when choosing a transfer release date:
Your record typically cannot be transferred in the middle of a term
Never withdraw from classes before your record is transferred without approval from an International Student Advisor
Transfers after the completion of a program must be requested before the end of your 60 day grace period
You must plan to start studying within 5 months or the next available term
Students are only authorized to work on-campus at the school that holds their SEVIS record. Once your SEVIS record has been transferred to another school, you will no longer be eligible to work on-campus at OSU.
Your OPT authorization will end once your SEVIS record has been transferred to another school, even if the end date on the Employment Authorization Document (EAD) extends beyond the transfer release date. Carefully consider your transfer release date so that your employment authorization does not end too soon.
Before requesting a SEVIS transfer, we strongly encourage sponsored students to obtain approval from their sponsor & complete the academic term. If you are withdrawing from courses after the 100% refund deadline in Week 1, your sponsor may not cover the costs for tuition and fees for the quarter in which you are terminating your enrollment.
Under the terms of agreement with your sponsor, OSU is obligated to notify your sponsor regarding your intentions to discontinue your studies at our University. Any financial or other adverse sponsorship consequences resulting from unapproved transfer or withdrawal are your responsibility.
