Through classes and activities around the city, you’ll learn about London in different time periods and from a variety of perspectives with faculty in the history of science, ethnic studies, and graphic design! 

All students take: HSTS 419H: Studies in Scientific Controversy (4 credits)

  • Taught by Professor Jake Hamblin

  • Satisfies bacc core: science, Technology and Society

  • Explore scientific controversies that connect us to religion, politics, war, and life itself, with visits to Charles Darwin's house, the Freud museum, a macabre Frankenstein-like anatomy collection, and more.

 Students also select one of the following two courses:

 HC 407: London's Icons:  How Objects and Discoveries Define a City (2 credits)

  • London is home to hundreds of famous and important inventions, discoveries, buildings, bridges and objects; learn about the unique and interesting history of these icons.

HC 407: London, Sugar and Slavery (2 credits)

  • Taught by Assistant Professor Natchee Barnd
  • Explore how biology, agriculture, ocean sciences, philosophy, economics, and culture shaped the transatlantic slave trade, which intertwined the fates of several continents, millions of peoples, and shaped the very emergence of the modern world.
